The Verve A Storm in Heaven"POP QUIZ HOT SHOT"220px FoolsGoldWhatTheWorldIsWaitingFor

Oasis
Ben Howard
Muse
The Almighty
Ride
Stiff Little Fingers
The Stone Roses
The Verve

What do these artists all have in common, apart from being british? (and yes Almighty fans, Scotland is STILL in the Empire until we crafty limeys can devise a foolproof way to finally boot you barbarians out!) (Hadrian failed miserably and the referendum result didn’t go the way we all wished it would have)

That was slightly off topic wasn’t it ...anyways!

You really aren't going to guess what links these acts unless you happen to be blessed with the ability to retain an unbelievably large amount of useless information (Chilli Williams, I’m talking to you here) and in all honesty it’s very unlikely you're going to know the answer without Googling it.

I’m just going to tell you, I’ve got plenty of time to ramble at you later tonight..

The connection between all these including Robert Plant, Supergrass, Ocean Colour Scene, Reef, Catatonia, Shed Seven (impressed yet?!) and Duran Duran was they all lived and
recorded at the oasis  (did we mention Oasis?) that is The Almighty (sorry Scotland, couldn’t stop myself) Sawmill Studios in Cornwall.

Sawmills studio to this very day is an active studio that has seen some of the biggest artists recording some of their best work and at the very least it should be awarded one of the blue plaque things for this honour.

The sheer amount of Britpop bands that have graced it’s stunningly tranquil grounds is a variable who’s who in the Britpop movement

Oasis recorded “Definitely Maybe” here
Supergrass arguably made their best albums here  “I Should Coco & In It For The Money)

(FYI Liam Howlett Called “Money" his favourite album in ‘97, need I say more)44B1511E00000578 4917194 Living space Sleeping 16 people across seven bedrooms the space a 4 1506343800787

“Fools Gold” By The Stone Roses was  recorded at Sawmills as was “A Storm In Heaven” by The Verve

Honestly I could go on name dropping, "Shaving Peaches" by Terrovision, see what I mean, I’m not even trying anymore.

Sawmill's pedigree is impeccable and that's just Britpop, I’ve not even touched on Robert Plant, XTC, Glen Matlock, New Model Army or Steve Hillage who have all recorded here.

Sawmills is available for private rent too as a holiday retreat and I'll copy their own words here, save me making it up for you....

"Set in its very own tidal creek on the banks of the river Fowey, Cornwall, the Old Sawmills is a haven of tranquility.

Nestled in acres of woodland, the location alone is stunningly beautiful. Whilst staying at the Old Sawmills you have the feeling of being on your own island, as access to the Sawmills is by boat… yet you can walk out anytime, along the scenic footpath of the Saints Way.

A seven bedroom house and two bedroom lodge can be booked together or separately.

The Old Sawmills is an ideal base for visiting Cornwall, or a perfect setting for simply relaxing and watching the tide lap in."

Honestly I’ve only just found out about this place, nobody told me (I blame my “You’re not Cornish are you BOY” accent for locals not telling me) and the fact such great bands have recorded such superb music a short 20 minute drive away from my desk  is simply staggering to me, Cornwall isn’t really a hotbed for music (we do have Mick Fleetwood though)

I’ve got no axe to grind here and I don’t want to sell you anything, I’m simply fascinated by the facts that it’s,

A) Local
B) Cornish (the biggest things to come out of Cornwall are the pasty and the Cornish Liberation army)

I’m stunned that such great music has been hiding just up the road from me and that after living here for 10 bloody years I’ve only just found out about it.
